Brief History of Wilson High School
The first records of Wilson School were recorded on November 1, 1869, when Mr. J. E. Wilson was principal. The school building was erected on what is now the corner of Dargan and Palmetto streets, and in 1906, Wilson moved to Athens Street. By that time, Wilson had become one of the outstanding schools in the state. Wilson has had thirteen principals since its beginning in 1869:
- 1907-1918 Mr. Walter Singleton
- 1918-1923 Mr. George Pegues
- 1923-1927 Mr. George Killingworth
- 1927-1929 Mr. Kurtwright
- 1929-1938 Mr. Leonard David
- 1938-1942 Mr. L.F. Buckner
- 1942-1966 Mr. Gerard A. Anderson
- 1966-1966 Mr. J.D. Hammonds

In 1950 Wilson was approved by the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. In 1963 Wilson was granted full membership in the Association.
Wilson expanded its physical facilities during these years and was moved to the site on North Irby Street in 1955. The campus comprised about 20 beautifully landscaped acres.
The current Wilson High School was completed in August 1982 and dedication ceremonies were held August 15, 1982. The school is currently located on 79 acres and consists of 209,000 square feet.
Wilson High has seen physical and technological expansion in the Twenty-First Century. Our Auditorium and Commons Area are equipped with high-speed (802.11g) wireless access points. Our school footprint has expanded with the addition of a science wing which includes 4 large laboratory classrooms. Wilson’s Media Center, Computer Lab and over 300 networked computers provide students and faculty with Internet access, educational software, and South Carolina’s DISCUS databases.

Through every changing hour.
With loyalty, courage, and hope,
Our lives shall e'er be blest.
And ever for, our Alma Mater,
We work and do our best.
As on we go, our aim shall grow,
