Chef Toscano served samples of a delicious Tortellini with meat sauce recipe during the Global Eats event during Wilson’s lunchtime. The Global Eats program is a national Chartwells initiative that introduces students to international flavor profiles, encouraging them to explore the unique ingredients and authentic flavors of cuisines from around the world.

“For each country that we “visit” during Global Eats, Chartwells has a celebrity chef that represents that country,” said Angela Price, Resident District Manager. “We are excited to welcome Chef Toscano as the representative of Italy. He is a very experienced chef who has a restaurant right here in South Carolina. Wilson was the first school in the district to host a Global Eats event last school year so it feels like we have come full circle with this event.”

Joining Toscano was Florence 1’s Executive Chef Katrina Smith and Chartwells K12 Regional Chef Imani Colclough, a graduate of West Florence High School.

“Chef Imani does guest spots on television and now our students can watch him work in person,” Price said. “They will be inspired by the fact that he is someone from Florence who loved cooking and now he is working as a regional chef. That’s a huge thing.”

An exciting addition to this Global Eats presentation was the inclusion of Culinary students from Advantage Academy. More than a dozen students worked alongside Chef Toscano. After the Global Eats program, the Advantage Academy students had additional time to meet and talk with Toscano while he prepared an additional dish for them, a delicious Caprese sandwich.
